Simon Troger (1683-1768) was a self taught Austrian sculptor who specialized in creating genre, allegorical and biblical figures rendered in combinations of wood and other natural materials.
After working in the workshop of Andreas Faistenberger, Troger went on to open his own workshop where he garnered great success and enjoyed the patronage of several important patrons of the day, including Maximillian II, King of Bohemia and member of the Habsburg family. Similar examples of Troger’s work as well as those listed as ‘circle of Simon Troger’ have been sold at major international auction houses including Bonham’s London.
