An Outstanding Antique Kurdish Bijar Gallery Carpet / Runner, Western Persia

  • An Outstanding Antique Kurdish Bijar Gallery Carpet / Runner, Western Persia, Circa 1900

The central field showing a complex pattern of traditional Herati motifs of rosettes & latched medallions against a deep indigo ground, terminating at both ends to triangular designs against terracotta spandrels. Sided by twin guard borders with rosette motifs that frame the main border of multi coloured angular oak-leaf motifs against a camel field. This remarkable carpet remains in extremely good overall condition with no obvious signs of repair, showing excellent colour retention and a very acceptable degree of moderate overall wear. Measuring 61” x 235” (5 feet wide x 19.5 feet long).

Note: The intriguing mix of design elements combined with the varying sections of abrash is indicative of a semi-nomadic, tribal or village manufacture vs that of organized town production).
