An Exceptional 18th Century Italian Neoclassical Parquetry & Marquetry Commode

  • An Exceptional 18th Century Italian Neoclassical Parquetry & Marquetry Commode in Kingwood, Mahogany, Walnut & Satinwood, Circa 1780

    The original hand-quarried sienna marble top set within a gilded gesso molding above a pair of full width drawers that retain their original fire-gilded pulls and functioning locks, their fronts inlaid with romantic and mythological motifs set against lustrous panels of Satinwood within Kingwood borders decorated with burnt chevron motifs on satinwood banding, both sides similarly addressed. Raised overall atop four inlaid, tapering supports terminating to gilt-gesso capped feet.
    Beneath the marble top, the exposed carcass bears stenciled lettering for CIAMPOLINI FIRENZE.
    Height - 36.5" Width - 48" Depth - 22"

    A superior example and of fine proportions and patina, in remarkable condition overall.
