A Very Good Suite of Four 19th Century Silverplated Wine / Decanter Coasters by Elkington & Company
All four coasters showing lobed rims and turned wooden bases centred by plated roundels, one pair bearing date marks for 1845, the second pair having roundels engraved with insignia crests for the 7th Regiment and bearing date marks for 1848.
George Richards Elkington and Henry Elkington were the first to discover and patent the silver-plating process in the 1830’s. They were subsequently awarded Royal warrants to several members of the British Royal Family including Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, Queen Mary & King George VI.
Elkington & Company were also the suppliers of flatware to the British Royal Yacht ‘Britannia’ as well as the luxury dining sections of the Titanic.
