A Very Good Sterling Silver Arts & Crafts Period ‘Noah’s Ark’ Christening Mug, Sheffield 1896
The plain lower body rising from a stepped circular foot to a belted ring, above which are embossed profiles of exotic animals standing upon a naturalistic ground, interspersed by a Cyprus tree and the figures of Noah and his wife. Fitted with a loop handle, the rim bearing impressed hallmarks and maker’s marks for William Hutton & Sons, the interior exhibiting a fine gold wash throughout.
Dimensions, 3.5” high x 2.25” diameter. Weight 126 grams (4.05 troy ounces).
In extremely good overall condition, minor wear consistent with age & use.
The ‘Noah’s Ark’ theme is a relatively scarce pattern, manufactured in this instance by one of the late 19th century’s most respected British silversmith firms.
