A Very Good & Exceptionally Large Japanese Imari Porcelain Censer, Meiji Period (1868-1912)
The bellied body having twin handles and a conforming pierced lid with a Shi-Shi lion finial, decorated overall with hand painted geometric & foliate motifs in cobalt blue, iron-red & gilt, against a garden scene interspersed by two large cobalt-traced panels of gated meadows, prunus & mystical horses. Raised overall upon three kabuki-inspired mask supports. In excellent condition overall, minor wear consistent with age & use. Dimensions, 17” high x 16” wide (across the handles).
