    A Very Fine George III Mahogany and Marquetry Tea Caddy, England Circa 1790


    The rectangular case showing canted corners with satinwood stringing and fronted by a partridge-wood panel within chevron strung borders, centred by an inlaid sycamore paterae of twin oak leafs rising from an urn shaped vessel. The conforming hinged top similarly decorated with a partridge-wood panel edged with chevron stringing and centred by a satinwood conch-shaped motif set against a sycamore panelled field. The interior retaining its original lock mechanism and showing remnants of original lead paper lining, the lid’s interior lined with its original foliate-embossed gilt foil.
    Dimensions, 4.5” high x 4.75” wide x 4” deep.

    A very fine example exhibiting superior form, materials & decoration, in very good condition overall.
