A Very Fine Early 19th Century Inlaid Mahogany Tea Caddy

  • A Very Fine Early 19th Century Inlaid Mahogany Tea Caddy, Signed Bloomfield 1815

The highly figured mahogany case edged with chevron inlays of exotic woods interspersed by ebony stringing, fronted by an urn-shaped mother of pearl escutcheon. The hinged lid having an elliptical shaped backplate minus its loop pull, opening to an interior mahogany panel with an intricate border of inlaid geometric motifs in exotic woods centred by a conch shaped motif, the case housing twin satinwood-banded tea canisters with similarly decorated lids flanking a later cut-glass mixing bowl within a satinwood lined collar. Exhibiting a fine patina and French polish finish overall. Signed & dated in pencil script, Bloomfield 1815 (possibly for British Cabinetmaker William Bloomfield).

    Dimensions, 6” high x 12”wide x 5.75”
