    A very fine and elegant sterling silver spirit cup in the neoclassical taste, having a goblet-shaped body affixed with a foliate cast handle, the beaded rim above a band of engraved Greek key motifs, the interior exhibiting an exceptional gilded surface, raised overall upon a circular foot decorated with engraved Greek key motifs. Bearing London hallmarks, date marks for 1866 and maker’s marks for Edward & James Barnard. Being somewhat unique in terms of design and of considerable weight for a cup of this scale, weighing 5.46 troy ounces. Height, 5.5” to top of handle.
    (The firm of Barnard & Sons is thought to be the oldest silversmith firm in history with its origins dating back to 1680)
