  • A Very Fine 18th Century Neoclassical Brass Register Grate, Irish Circa 1780
    Although seemingly unsigned, this remarkable example bears a number of unmistakable characteristics associated with those manufactured by two of the finest Dublin workshops of the 18th century - George Binns and S & Jn Clarke.

    The brass surround engraved with neoclassical motifs, framing an iron basket with a triple bar grate flanked by similarly engraved brass-panelled fire cheeks topped with urn-shaped finials, surmounting an engraved & pierced brass apron. Dimensions, 36” x 34.5” x 8.5”
    (A near identical example by George Binns but missing its full brass surround, was sold at Christies London, September 27th 2011 for the hammer price of 7500.00 British Pounds (plus buyer’s premium)
