  • A Superior Regency-Period Brass Bound Rosewood Campaign Writing Box, England Circa 1815


    The brass bound case constructed of richly figured Brazilian rosewood, showing a hinged top inset with a blank brass cartouche, opening to an interior fitted for inkwells & writing implements including two gilt-tooled leather writing panels opening to document compartments, one housing three concealed, spring activated ’secret’’ drawers. The interior also featuring a hinged arm that elevates to support the top when being used as a reading lectern in conjunction with the removable lectern bar stored inside. The base retaining its original lock mechanism together with an associated key, both sides fitted with flush-mounted brass carrying handles - one affixed to a single drawer. The underside of both writing panels bearing handwritten signatures in old script. Dimensions, 7.25" high x 20" wide x 10.75" deep. In fine overall condition, exhibiting exceptional graining & colour and a fine ‘French polished’ finish.
