A Rare Pair of 19th Century Hessian Soldier Bronze Andirons, American Circa 1850
A rare pair of 19th century Hessian Soldier andirons cast in thick gauge bronze, finely modelled and weighing approximately 14 pounds each (without the forged iron support). Both exhibiting a patinated surface and a fine rich patina overall, one showing slightly more surface wear. Dimensions, 19.5” high x 9” wide x 17.5” deep.
It's worth noting that the vast majority of Hessian style andirons were mass produced in large numbers in iron, whereas these fine examples cast in bronze are without doubt the exception.
