A Rare Papua New Guinea Kukukuku War Club, Eastern Highlands - Morobe Province

This rare war club is from Morobe Province which is a very remote area from within the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, showing a hand carved oval disc-shaped head of mottled green stone millions of years old, honed to a fine edge and bound with rattan fibres to a wood handle terminating to a phallic shaped finial

Dimensions noted as illustrated: 5.5” high x 26” long x 9” wide. 

Provenance: Purchased by direct descent from the family of Dr. George P. Holland, a noted Entomologist and former Director of The Entomology Research Institute with the Canadian Department of Agriculture, who obtained this and other indigenous artefacts while on a 5 month scientific research expedition to Papua New Guinea in 1957.

Dr. Holland was also awarded the distinction of Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
