  • A Pair of 19th Century Portuguese Silver Shabbat Candlesticks

     

    A very good & heavy pair of mid 19th century Portuguese silver (.833 fine) cast Shabbat candlesticks. Both showing baluster shaped stems rising from convex mounds decorated with embossed foliate motifs, to urn shaped nozzles with flaring drip pans. Raised overall on squared bases bearing impressed town marks for Porto used between 1836-1843, together with 'Tremolierstrich' (assay scratch marks), and stamped MASS within a rectangular cartouche. Measuring 8.75” high x 3.75” square. Combined silver weight of 672 grams or 21.6 troy ounces.
