  • A Most Interesting 19th Century Sterling Silver Agricultural Trophy Cup, London 1876

     

    The tulip-shaped bowl rising on a ringed stem atop a spreading circular base, the exterior engraved with a dedication and bearing full hallmarks & partially rubbed makers marks for Robert Harper, the interior having a faint gilt wash. In very good condition overall, wear consistent with age & use. Dimensions, 7.5” high x 3.25” diameter (rim). Weight, 201 grams (6.46 troy ounces).

     

    The dedication reads, “Royal Counties – Hants & Berks Agricultural Society, 1876” on one side, on the opposing, “Awarded to Mr. Heber Humfrey – Kingston’s Farm Shrivenham, Owner of the Best Berkshire Boar Over 12 Mos. of  Age”.
