A Massive Early 18th Century Bronze Mortar & Pestle, Netherlands Circa 1700

 

The robust & heavily cast bronze mortar rising from a flattened circular base to a cylindrical body with ovolo & cavetto turned moldings, terminating to a broad flaring rim. Having a very old, weathered surface and exhibiting a superb old patina overall. Retaining what appears to be its original bronze pestle. The mortar measures 5.75” high x 7.25” diameter, with a weight of 14.4 lbs, and a combined weight of 16.1 lbs including the pestle.
