A Striking George I Period Japanned Chest of Drawers, England Circa 1720

A highly decorative George I Period japanned chest of drawers, showing an overhanging top over four tiers of short & full width drawers with stylistically correct albeit later hardware, raised overall atop bracket supports. Originally constructed & decorated with gilt chinoiserie motifs on black lacquer overtop a gesso & red bole surface, the black lacquer now mostly abraded leaving behind a surface with a striking mottled appearance with faint traces of original chinoiserie decoration. This wonderful piece of early Georgian case furniture would highly compliment any modern, classical, or rustic setting. Dimensions; 36” high x 40.5” wide x 21.5” deep.
