A George II Cast Iron Strong Box Attributed to Humphrey Gainsborough (1718-1776) English
The top, sides & ends decorated with recumbent lions cast in high relief framed within raised mouldings, the sides fitted with swing handles, the top having a bar handle and a hinged brass escutcheon plate covering its locking mechanism, original key intact. Dimensions 15” high x 25” wide x 16.5” deep.
A near identical, albeit a plainer example without lions, was sold at Bonham’s London ‘Gentleman’s Library Sale’ January 28th 2015, Lot #738
