A Finely Cast Copper Alloy Head of Buddha Shakyamuni, Thailand, 17th Century (possibly earlier).
The heavily cast bronze head of Buddha Shakyamuni demonstrating distinctive Northern Sukhothai style features, featuring an oval shaped head with elongated earlobes and tightly curled ‘snail shell’ hair beneath a dome shaped ushnisha. The face effecting a benign meditative expression with downcast eyes & arched eyebrows, the beaked nose over full upturned lips and a broad philtrum. Exhibiting a fine old surface & patina overall with areas of surface wear noted as illustrated. Mounted to an associated teak plinth base with an overall height of 10.25”, (head measures 7” high).
