A Finely Cast Copper Alloy Figure of Buddha Amitabha, 19th / 20th Century

  • A Finely Cast Copper Alloy Figure of Buddha Amitabha, 19th / 20th Century

The finely cast bronze figure of Buddha Amitabha aka ‘The Buddha of Immensurable Life & Light’, shown seated upon a double lotus pedestal base attired in a flowing robe, his face affecting a pensive meditative expression with arched eyebrows & downcast eyes, over full upturned lips and a deep philtrum. Positioned in the ‘Abhaya Mudra’ gesture, which is a gesture to convey the calming of the mind and dispelling fear & anxiety, as well as helping to promote an overall sense of security that encourages inner strength & courage both in spiritual practice and in daily life. The ancient symbol of a swastika shown over Buddha’s heart is interpreted in Sanskrit writings as being symbolic of ‘Being with Higher Self’ and is in fact an auspicious symbol found in several ancient cultures, including Egyptian, Greek, Celtic as well as Native American Indian, which the Nazi’s had reversed counterclockwise, both literally & metaphorically. The palms of Buddha’s hands illustrate a Dharma wheel; Dharma represents the teachings of Buddha, with the circular form communicating the perfection of his teaching, as well as symbolizes the process of death & rebirth. Exhibiting an old rubbed surface and a fine patina overall. Measuring 9.5” high.
