A Fine & Rare 18th Century Silver Mounted Coconut Goblet, Edinburgh 1791
The coconut-shell bowl having a reeded silver rim over a richly gilded silver-lined interior, the bowls exterior rendered with relief carved detail featuring the coat of arms, crest, and motto for Campbell of Park, cadet of Lawers, together with a monogram MC below a crest interspersed by carved palm tree motifs. Raised upon an octagonal silver stem issuing from a conforming & reeded foot, the underside bearing Edinburgh Hallmarks with date letter for 1791 and makers marks for noted Scottish silversmith Alexander Gardner. Measuring 7.25” high x 3.5” diameter.
Alexander Gardner (sometimes spelled Gairdner) is known as having been one of the longest working Scottish silversmiths, working 1754-1803.
