    A very charming & finely executed early 20th century equine watercolour by esteemed British watercolourist, Nathaniel Hughes John Baird. Signed with monogram bottom right and set within what appears to be its original gesso molded frame.

    Dimensions, 8.75” high x 16” wide (sight), framed dimensions, 22” high x 29.5” wide. 

     

    Nathaniel Hughes John Baird R.O.I. (1865-1936), was born in Yetholm, Roxborough and studied at the Coldstream Art Academy in Edinburgh, then later moved to study in London & Paris. He exhibited in 1883 at the R.A. (Royal Academy) in London, as well as at other notable galleries including the R.O.I. (Royal Institute of Oil Painters) which he became a member of. He worked both in oils & watercolours and is best know for his equine watercolours of plough horses, as well as rural genre landscapes.

     

    Nathaniel Hughes John Baird is listed in ‘The Dictionary of British Watercolour Artists, up to 1920 – Volume I’ by H.L. Mallalieu
