  • Exceptional Pair of Neoclassical-Revival Painted Wooden Urns, France Circa 1880

    A highly impressive & decorative pair of 19th century ebonized wooden urns, both fitted with detachable lids with gilded composition mounts, the bodies decorated overall with hand painted gilt motifs and romantic themed murals, the necks featuring applied neoclassical elements in the form of gilded composition ram’s heads. Raised overall upon circular plinth bases decorated with scrolled gilt foliage and swan motifs, which were designs strongly associated with the French Empire period. Dimensions, 32.5” high x 12” diameter.

    Both in very good overall condition with areas of craquelure, minor surface abrasions & paint loss, a very minor loss to tip of one ram's horn. (A detailed quote for restoration by our museum trained conservator can be provided upon request.
