An Art Deco Cold Painted & Patinated Bronze by Carl Kauba (1865-1922)
A finely modelled Art Deco cold-painted & gilt patinated bronze figure of a young female dancer, posed with an energetic and wonderful sense of natural movement & expression, attired in a silver-patinated classical costume accented with red polychrome paint, standing atop a domed base signed 'Kauba' for noted Viennese sculptor Carl Kauba, and raised overall upon a striated green onyx socle base. Overall height, 11.25”.
Carl Kauba (1865-1922) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he then later studied under Karl Waschmann (1848-1905) who was well known for ivory sculptures, as well as with sculptor Stefan Schwartz (1851-1924) who won a Gold Medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris.
