An impressively large & charming pair of ceramic lions by Lancaster & Son’s Ltd., Stoke-on-Trent (1899-1944). Decorated in a high glaze and modelled after what was originally known as the Medici Lion that had been sculpted in Florence during the 16th century, both lions are shown standing - bravely facing the viewer straight on and with one paw resting atop an orb - defined as an allegorical perspective intended to convey Sovereignty over the World.Dimension: 11.5” high. x 13.75” wide x 6” deep.
