A Fine Chinese Export Silver Tea & Coffee Service by Hung Chong, Canton/Shanghai
A Fine Chinese Export Silver Tea & Coffee Service by Hung Chong, Canton / Shanghai Circa 1900
This highly attractive four piece silver tea & coffee service is comprised of a coffee pot, teapot, lidded sugar bowl & creamer - the coffee pot of baluster form, the three remaining pieces of compressed globular form, having a textured surface inset with blank spherical cartouche and stylized ‘bamboo’ shaped spouts, handles & finials. The undersides bearing impressed makers marks & character marks for Hung Chong & Company of Canton & Shanghai (working 1860-1930), with the exception of the coffee pot suggesting an early repair to the base but does not affect its functionality. Combined weight, 52.21 troy ounces.
This is a fine example of Chinese Export craftsmanship by one of the more noted Chinese silversmiths of the late 19th / early 20th century.
A very similar example is illustrated online at Bonham’s, London catalogued in 'Fine Silver & Gold Boxes' held on November 12th 2014 / Lot 78Please contact us by either phone at
