    A superb example by the finest British silver plating specialists of the 19th century.

    The glass body profusely etched with leafy motifs and vinery, rising from a flattened base to a cylindrical body fitted with a richly embossed collar bearing date marks for 1884 and depicting bacchanal themes of masks, grape clusters and tendrils, the spout decorated with the face of Bacchus. The hinged lid terminating to a ‘lion rampant’ finial bracing a shield-shaped thumb-piece and affixed to a foliate engraved handle.

    George Richards Elkington & Henry Elkington were the first to discover and patent the silver plating process in the 1830s. They were subsequently awarded Royal warrants to several members of the British Royal Family including Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, Queen Mary & King George VI.

    Elkington & Company were the suppliers of flatware to the British Royal Yacht ‘Britannia’ as well as the luxury dining sections of the Titanic.
