Am Edwardian Period Leather Bound Stationary Box
The cascading top opening to a satin-lined and fitted interior, the base fronted by a pierced sterling silver appliqué of scrolling vinery.

A 19th Century Brass-Bound Calamander Stationary Box
The richly figured calamander case decorated with brass strapwork and having a hinged, domed top opening to a fitted interior. Dimensions, 6.5” high x 9.5” long x 5.25” deep.

A Rare Reverse-Painted & Ebonized Papier- Mâché Sewing Box
The fluted rectangular body decorated with hand-painted & gilt stenciling on all surfaces,
the hinged lid inset with a reverse-painted glass panel illustrating a boatman poling a barge
on a lake, backed by Gothic ruins set against a hilly landscape. The interior showing a satin-lined,
two-tiered removable compartment.
Dimensions, 5” high x 14” wide x 11” deep. (some flaking to paint)
English, Circa 1860.
Although unmarked it is representative of work by Lane of Birmingham Ltd.

 The plush pile showing a red madder field interspersed by five octagonal shaped medallions containing latch-hook motifs, set within an outer border with repeating crab-like elements against an ivory field. Armenian, Circa 1880. Dimensions: 135” x 51.5”

 A Highly Decorative Art & Crafts Wrought Iron Conservatory Jardinière. The riveted framework showing an undulating sheet-iron superstructure retaining its original zinc liner, decorated with whiplash and organic inspired hand-hammered elements. Raised overall atop angular supports braced by flattened stretchers and gilt-patinated spandrels. Circa 1900. Height -35” Width - 30” Depth - 9”

A Pair of Hand Carved and Painted Baroque Style Torchères Continental, Early 20th Century

 

 

A Superior Pair of Inlaid Georgian Knife Boxes in Figured Mahogany Both of serpentine form, their tops centred by a marquetry star of ivory & ebony within a kingwood-banded & chevron strung border, repeated again on the underside in exotic woods. The interiors fitted with later cutlery panels, the exteriors showing oval paktong escutcheons. Raised overall atop original cast metal ball & claw feet. Scottish, Circa 1785. (Paktong was a nickel, zinc and copper alloy first developed in China and then exported to England during the 18th century to be used as an alternative to silver) In addition to the use of paktong it is also rare to find knife boxes that retain their original feet as most were damaged from wear and then replaced with a simple baize lining.

 
 
An Early 19th Century Scottish Stick Barometer by James Berry, Aberdeen. The mahogany and amboyna veneered case showing an arched & glazed hood fronting an engraved bone/ivory register with Vernier operated weather-scale bearing marks for James Berry, Aberdeen. The trunk having a glazed & lozenge-shaped panel fronting a mercury thermometer, above a convex cistern cover. Circa 1835. Some restoration required. Ref: James Berry is listed in Edwin Banfield's 'Barometer Makers and Retailers, 1660-1900' and was noted as having lectured on nautical subjects and astronomy throughout Scotland.
A Baroque-Style Giltwood Torchere Floor Lamp. The carved and gilded tri-angular column fitted with a custom made parchment shade. Italy, 20th Century.
A Very Good George III Mahogany Bell Top Bracket Clock. The richly figured bell top case raised upon stepped brass feet and showing an arched and glazed door inset with pierced ormolu spandrels fronting a foliate engraved silvered dial with blued steel hands and roman numerals surmounted by a strike/silent dial. The 8 day twin fusee movement with verge escapement striking on the hour and having an hour pull repeat. The dial signed Anthony Shepperley, London. Anthony Shepperley is recorded as working in Long Row, London in 1814
A Very Good Pair of Gilt Bronze Candlesticks in the Manner of Louis XV. Each showing a circular drip pan above a voluted baluster-shaped column decorated with chisled foliate & scrolled motifs, rising from a spreading circular base. Height - 7.5 French, Circa 1870.
